It's only been a few months since Blizzard made massive changes to the way Mercy plays in Overwatch. These changes received mixed reviews from players, but their intention was to balance Mercy and incentivize players to use the hero more in the way she was originally intended by the developers. In a Public Test Realm update that hit servers just a few days ago, a few changes have been made that reduce the potency of some of these changes for another time in a series of nerfs over the last few months.
- Mercy's Resurrect ability is no longer instant in her Ultimate ability/mode Valkyrie, and the bonus charge for the ability has been removed
- The speed boost Valkyrie provides to the Guardian Angel ability has been cut by 50%
- The duration of Valkyrie itself has been reduced by 5 seconds from 20
"Mercy’s recent Resurrect changes have helped in allowing enemies to have more counter play in dealing with her, but she was able to use Resurrect through Valkyrie enough to largely mitigate the impact of the previous changes. Additionally, we’re toning back the amount of mobility Valkyrie provides through Guardian Angel and reducing its duration to overall reduce the power of this ability." – Geoff Goodman, Principal Designer
A less dramatic nerf was also handed out in the update to Junkrat. The hero's Concussion Mine ability will now deal less damage to targets that are further from the epicenter of the explosion.
The company says they will likely be "iterating on these changes in the coming weeks." You can check out the original post from Blizzard here.
